Why do some teams perform better than others? This is a question that all of us have been bothered with at some point. Google decided this was important enough a topic to commission an in-depth study on. Pulitzer-winner Charles Duhigg (also the author of the fabulous 'The Power of Habbit') digs deeper in this extract from his new book. The study concluded that what mattered the most was not the individual skill levels of the team members, or the personality types or backgrounds; what mattered most was how 'psychologically secure' the team members felt. If team members felt respected and not judged, the entire team performed better. It didn't matter if members were extroverts or introverts or if the discussions were formal or informal. Equality of 'conversation turn-taking' mattered, which again was a reflection of how secure each team member felt in the group. Now that's some food for thought - Comment
