This article does a good job of highlighting the problems with the government's Startup Action plan. Undoubtedly, even having a plan is movement forward, but a few things stick out as issues. The very definition of a startup (which can avail the various benefits, including the 3 year tax holiday) is problematic. The 'startup' needs to be recommended by an incubator and should be driven by technology or new IP, qualified by an inter-ministerial panel. Sounds like more bureaucracy! Also, the reason for the government to run a Rs 10,000 cr fund is not clear. Venture capital is a risky asset class, best left to venture capitalists. If Modi and Jaitley believe in what they have said 'Entrepreneurs need freedom from the state', these action plan items certainly don't fit in that mould - Comment
